I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change - Review
INSIGHT INTO MODERN MATING
12:00 - 11 September 2006
I Love You, Arts Theatre, Friday 8th September
THIS was no ordinary debut production from the newly formed Small Acorns Theatre Company. The four-strong cast took on 60 roles in a sparkling interpretation of a romantic comedy that is the longest running musical revue in New York history.
Lindsey Jaycock, Sarah Brice, Chris Rees and Charlie Cracknell were a revelation, providing a compelling, refreshing and original insight into the pleasure and pain of the modern day mating game.
The sparkling score, played to perfection by pianist Jonathan Orton and violinist Karen Burton, its inventive dialogue and well-staged scenarios, mean this show really hit the mark.
Among the many highlights was a dinner party scene at which proud parents, expecting their son and prospective daughter-in-law to announce their engagement, are shocked to learn the couple are splitting up.
A brilliantly choreographed On the Highway to Love - with a family car, replicated by four chairs, is a masterly show of ingenuity.
